sRide at the ACT DC Fly-In: Carpooling in the National Conversation
Sep 15/16 2025 sRide was proud to be part of the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) DC Fly-In, where transportation leaders, and practitioners came together in Washington, D.C. to advance the future of commuter options across the United States.
Conversations on Capitol Hill
Over the course of two busy days, sRide as part of ACT met with numerous Senators and Representative offices from California, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Utah, Ohio, Alabama, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Minnesota. We also had the opportunity to engage with officials at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).
The energy in the Senate and House corridors was palpable. Everywhere we went, the conversations centered on Transportation Demand Management (TDM) practices and how we can give American families more affordable, reliable, and sustainable commuting options.
Carpooling at the Forefront
What was especially encouraging was how often carpooling came up in meetings. From improving access to jobs and healthcare to helping seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities travel more easily to reducing congestion and making commutes safer, carpooling was increasingly recognized as a powerful, bipartisan solution.
With over 113 million empty seats on American roads every day, the opportunity to scale carpooling is enormous. At sRide, we believe these empty seats represent not just wasted capacity, but untapped potential to reduce costs, cut emissions, and create stronger workplace and community connections.
A Shared Commitment to Action
The Fly-In made it clear that mobility is key to the progress of states. Leaders across states and political lines are ready to explore solutions that improve daily life for commuters, strengthen local economies, and advance sustainability goals.
Together with our partners, we will continue to show how carpooling can be a practical, people-centered transportation option for employers, cities, and regions across the country.
