Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Mandates Carpooling for Government Staff to Cut Fuel Use

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has put carpooling at the centre of the state’s fuel-saving drive. In a fresh circular, the state government has directed officials and employees travelling in the same direction to carpool their daily commute to and from work β whether in government or private vehicles.
Why This Matters
The order names carpooling as a default behaviour for the everyday office commute β not a nice-to-have, but a directive. When a state government tells its own staff to share rides to save fuel, shared mobility moves from an awareness campaign to standard operating practice.
It is also the lowest-cost lever available: carpooling needs no new fleets and no new infrastructure, and it starts saving fuel from day one.
A Growing National Pattern
Rajasthan is not alone. In May, leaders across the country echoed the same call to share rides and conserve fuel:
- PM Narendra Modi appealed to citizens and institutions to conserve petrol and diesel β the appeal that carpooling answers most directly.
- Delhi CM Rekha Gupta urged residents to use public transport and carpool, and prioritised carpooling for official department travel.
- Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis directed departments to draw up plans to cut fuel use and travel β reinforcing the shift toward shared commuting.
- Odisha mandated carpooling for senior officers as part of its own fuel-reduction directive.
Why Carpooling Is the Right Answer
Rajasthan’s decision to mandate government carpooling validates what sRide has championed for years: shared mobility is the most practical, scalable way to cut fuel costs and reduce traffic β and it works today.
Whether you’re a government officer or a daily office commuter, carpooling just 3 days a week can cut your fuel bill by nearly 40%. sRide makes it easy to find verified co-passengers on your exact route β safely, affordably, and sustainably.
