FACT: In many of our metro cities, the particulate matter (PM) level, indicative of the air quality, reaches close to 10, which is 7-8 times higher than levels considered safe by the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. It doesn’t come as a surprise after a study conducted by WHO (World Health Organization) in 2018 concluded that 14 Indian cities feature in the list of 20 most polluted cities in the world. Researches also show that air pollution alone caused over 4.2 million early deaths worldwide in 2015, with over half of this count coming from China and India, making it one of the top five causes for death.

Now, the plot thickens…

About 20% of air pollution is contributed by vehicular emissions.

Do the above statistics worry you?

It is, in fact, a cause for concern that air – a natural resource that we need to breathe every minute of every day, something that is available to us for free – is now turning dangerous. It’s important that each of us do our bit to clean up the mess we have caused, and reduce our carbon footprint to leave a real impact in cleaning up the air we breathe in.

With all that out in the open, in 2019, it’s high time we switch to more eco-friendly modes of transport such as electric vehicles (which also emits some amount of CO2), or even better, press STOP on adding vehicles to the roads and ADOPT CARPOOLING!

Considering that there are already 20 million cars and 140 million bikes plying the Indian roads, the option to share rides seems to be most viable and efficient, especially when most vehicles carry only 1 or 2 passenger(s) during rush hours. More vehicles will only add to the traffic congestion, not to forget, add to the toxic emissions in the air.

To sum up, more ride sharing equals less congestion, a faster ride to work and back home, leading to less stress caused by long travel hours, a higher productivity at work, absolutely ZERO addition to air pollution, good time spent conversing and exchanging experiences with co-passengers and, of course, a lot more time left to be dedicated to me-time, hobbies, family and friends.

A simple lifestyle adjustment this New Year can not only serve as a step to healing our earth, but also leave you with enough time for those surprise dinner dates after work with your loved one and playtime with kids before bed – all the little things that matter the most in life.

We, at sRide, are committed to this cause and pledge to make 2019 a pro-carpool year.

Our team also offers you exciting incentives to join our ever-growing carpool community. For one, you get to ride at just Rs.3.5/km, making it the most cost-effective carpool app option available for corporate employees, with no extra surge charges. If you’re a car owner, you can pick riders travelling to work or back in the same route as you, build connections while travelling long distances, and also earn cash. Sounds like a sweet deal, right? Oh, and if you’re concerned whether it’s a safe carpool app for women, don’t. Every user is verified via their company email,  every ride is tracked, and also reviewed by the vehicle owner and rider.
