Smart people carpool. Do you?

Smart people carpool. Do you?

One of the major issues that has become a constant topic of discussion, is making the world a better place to live in. Everyone has a different take on how to get there. But what’s become common is that internal drive to reach their desired destination. Today people are constantly talking about environment issues and what part they can play to make things better. And if you’ve been keeping a tab on these conversations, you’ll know how aggressively they’re being followed up! Don’t believe us? Take a look at the massively followed Car Free Thursday – Hyderabad. People from all walks of life, all age groups, are actually getting out there to promote the one thing that has only been a distant dream all these years when it comes to ways of saving the environment – carpooling. Even though there are still a lot many out there who aren’t too comfortable with the idea of going green in totality, hard hitting facts are definitely striking a chord with today’s generation. Most of them revolving around environment, health and finances. Here are some numbers our research in two major IT cities got us: Pune There are almost 6 lakh people who travel to and fro from Hinjewadi for work. About 70% of these people travel by their own car – alone. When 10% of these people carpooled once a week, there was about 1,57,500 kg of carbon dioxide reduction in the environment. That is about 7,560 ton of carbon dioxide avoided per year. Hyderabad There are almost 4 lakh people in the HITEC City in Hyderabad. About 60% of these...

Here’s why we think carpooling has endless benefits

Carpooling is not unknown anymore and the trend is achieving new levels of success every day. More and more people are being introduced to the world of shared rides a.k.a. carpooling. The trend is catching up fast among the youth of today the and is definitely making a lot more sense to those who travel in a particular direction more often. When you travel to and fro between the same points, you tend to lose interest in travelling solo and after some time, you just need some company. And that’s where carpooling comes in! “Man is a social animal.” Well yes it’s true, and carpooling is making people live this proverb. What started as an experimental trend in the west a few years ago, is creating ripples in the east, so much so that it is on its way to becoming one of the largest social movements. And there have to be more than one benefits of it to be catching up with all at this scale! Here are some of them: 1. Saves Fuel It’s been years since the campaign against overuse of fuel started. There is a common sentiment shared between governments, research facilities and social groups on an international level that we as a planet are running out of this precious resource. While many efforts have been made to overcome the crisis on a smaller and personal level, carpooling is proving to be the most effective of them all. There is a collective appeal associated with the trend of carpooling, which motivates people to adopt it and be a part of the international campaigning. While more...
How I made a difference to the environment (and you can too)

How I made a difference to the environment (and you can too)

The environment is a funny thing; it gives you a ’false’ sense of security. Yes I mean ‘false’. It pretends that no matter what you do, it would always protect you – but that isn’t the case. It pulls the rug from underneath your feet, right when you are extremely comfortable.  So yes, it is a false sense of security and it is high time we do something about it! In the name of development, we are torturing this world into an abyss, and this truth should make everyone think twice – but somehow it doesn’t. The first time I heard about the word Greenhouse Effect or Global warming, it was back in class 5th or 6th. I hated geography, which in turn gave me no interest in what was gradually happening to our world. Today it has been almost 18-20 years since that day, and I often wonder – What if I would have paid attention that day? Would the world be a little different today? As the saying goes, it is never too late for a change. And I hope that the environment believes in the same. Even if not, we could try and make it! Let me tell you how I made a difference to the environment (and how you could help too): #1 Live Clean and Think Green I always compare this point with Yoga. We all know how Yoga helps our body to be clean and healthy. Similarly, even your house needs some yoga. Don’t you wish for fresh air every time you step out in the balcony early morning? Well, you can’t go...
